Nearly exactly a year after he was here with Curren$y and Nipsey Hussle, last night Dom Kennedy returned to Seattle to play Neumos again, this time for his own show. Some local talent graced the stage first with Royce The Choice and DJ DJ Swerveon. Also from LA same as Dom was Skeme, but it was clear everyone was anxiously waiting for the headliner to pop on stage. He finally did and played some of his older hits as well of some of his newer stuff off of From The Westside With Love II.

Nipsey Hussle and Dom Kennedy – I Need That

The 27-year-old LA Rap Star has hussled on the underground for awhile and is steadily gaining more and more popularity on the scene. With his charisma and loyal fan base he will keep on grind’n(see below) and hopefully start moving up to larger venues next time he comes back to the NW. Oh and he was rocking a Mariners hat, so props for the N-Dub Love.

HEY! People! September is almost over. I know it’s hard to believe. It went by so fast! But I have always looked forward to October living in this city because one thing is always true: There are always so many good shows. Seriously. So many good bands come through Seattle in October. It never fails me. I don’t know what it is – maybe because Seattle is also awesome in October. And this year is no exception – so I have dubbed this month ROCK-tober. Here’s a sneak peak at the October shows I’m excited about/going to (!!! for extra emphasis):

Also, there is a brand new video for this song on the band’s Facebook page. It was shot in Brooklyn and directed by David Altobelli. I dislike that you have to “like” their page to view it but thats pretty common these days. Here is their facebook page

I recently discovered The Romany Rye because I saw he is opening for Delta Spirit on friday (6/11) at Neumos! After listening to his songs, i’m pretty effing intrigued to see him lay down these jams. Check these out and you’ll see what I mean.

All The Boys

I’d call his music Heavy Folk with a touch of blues/soul. Exactly what you would want to listen to on a quiet rainy day. His voice is raw.  Like he’s been a smoker for most his life.

You can find his album “highway 1, looking back carefully” here on itunes. I haven’t found it anywhere else.

Electro-pop solo artist Victoria Christina Hesketh aka, Little Boots is coming to Seattle. You may not have heard of her, she’s a UK artist who’s embarking on a North American tour. I keep hearing it promoted on the radio and in the Stranger. I know I’ve heard the name before, and perhaps heard a remix or two on the Hype machine so I look her up. Really poppy, maybe a bit much for my usual tastes but I do like pop music, and it’s been pretty origianl as far as pop music goes. Next step, Youtube for some live performance action. I like it, she uses this cool Japanese technology called, a Tenori (??) and uses it in a performance she did on Jools Holland performance gives a live demo of it. I just used a similar application on her site and it’s super rad. I just made this, and you can play on it too:

So I go to her website to check out what’d be on her album, and in my professional opinion, it’s pretty much garbage. It’s terribly produced, REAL bad. They’re these pop ballads that aren’t at all catchy or appealing. I’m so confused because her live performance is pretty legit; her voice sounds good and the technology/instrument use is fun to watch. She plays at Neumos on Saturday the 6th for $15. Unless I can go for free, I won’t be going, but please, if you do go, or really like Little Boots, sell us on her! Someone needs to…

Her website doesn’t work so I won’t post, listen if you want to her ‘space, but just watch the video, it’s better.

Here’s the performance of the same song on Jools Holland:
