I get about 20 emails a day from PR-people/Bands/Email-lists/junk, and every once in a while i’ll get one direct from an artist. Those are the emails i actually read. if they copy paste some Bullshit 3rd person perspective fluff then i usually disregard. Below is the conversation i had with Douglas Mcgillivray. Turned into a pretty good interview mixed with some tracks…

Douglas McGillivray – 8/17/11 (to me)
My project is called: Another. These are some of my sounds. It’s a real smooth blend of electronic beats, calm synths, some surf guitar, and intimate vocals that create my overall beach sound. These are all recordings I do at home. My demo LP that I have up right now is called “Since June”. I’m just trying to see if people would like to write about my stuff so I can spread my music easier. Hope you enjoy, or at least take a listen.

Me – 8/17/11 – (to Douglas)
which songs were your favorite to create?

Douglas McGillivray – 8/17/11 – (to me)
Oh, hmmm. That’s a really interesting/challenging question… especially since this is my first set of recordings that I have ever done and I’m doing them all myself, so I’m learning and developing techniques with every song. They all really have something special in them that made it interesting to create but if I had to pick one, it would be that top track “Maika”, just because it encapsulated everything that I wanted to do when I first thought about doing this album. And recording stuff like pots, pans, shakers, maracas along with the electronic stuff was fun. Those songs “same to you” and “night” are being re recorded at the moment to be uniform with the rest of the production on the album. This thing is almost done and will have 11 tracks altogether and I just plan to give it out for free and press a few hundred copies. I love that question, I’m always questioning myself along with my music production and goals, so that was a cool one to think about.

it seems like you’re going to be growing and changing rapidly because each song is pretty different from the next. going from helicopter which is basically backyard/beach party to Points of Rocks which seems like it would find a home at an uber-trendy LA club is pretty fun.

you should remove the videos from youtube that have poor audio quality. Put up the official recording without a video. Or make an official account just for this project with clean uploads.

Send me an email when your EP is about to be released officially and i’ll do an article. definitely stop emailing people for press and just focus on that music. it’ll come if its good. and it is.

Alright cool man, thanks for the advice and the compliment. I’ll let you know when I finish it up totally, thanks for listening! Hopefully it’ll be done soon.

6 months go by…

Douglas McGillivray(Feb 18, 2012) – to me
Hey, I took your advice and just stopped sending my stuff out, so I could finish an album. I re-recorded some songs, fixed ALL of them, and got some new jams on there as well. I get 200 free download credits a month and just ran out this month, but it’s getting refilled in 2 days. I’ve never had someone from a blog take the time to give me such good feedback and advice, so I just wanted to give you this album. Thanks again.
