AC Slater Seattle

I could only go so long without paying mad respects to my favorite artist/dj/producer ever.PERIOD. I know that’s a huge claim, but AC Slater changed the way I looked and listened to music. The dude is a beast when it comes to longevity in the industry. He first blew up in the NYC rave scene in the early 2000′s making his name as a happy hardcore producer (gross as fuck). He went on to launch a successful hardcore label called Pitched Up Records, at the time one of the only labels putting out happy hardcore records in America. It all came to a head with this quote:

“I had a moment where I was playing a big rave in Brooklyn at Club Exit; the club was packed, and everyone was 16, and I’m 27 at the time, I didn’t want to be there, and I was getting sick of the music. I felt weird, out of place, and creepy. I needed something new.”

Right about this time AC was getting heavily influenced by bassline house and early dubstep emerging from the UK. In his basement he worked on tracks and eventually released this gem, somewhat of a rave anthem and one of the first tracks I heard:

AC Slater – Play The Record Again

Slowly over time AC began getting into a little more electro and dubstep pushing his signature wobble releasing tons of originals and remixes, getting signed to Brooklyn crew Trouble & Bass, and eventually starting another label, Party Like Us Records. But lately things had seemed to change. AC was experimenting with other types of music, he produced a solid hip-hop album with Dell and came out with some so/so remixes. For a bit I thought we had lost touch and the days of banging AC tracks were gone. Until now. I heard this latest release and was instantly hooked, love the mellow vibes.

AC Slater & Xaphoon – Believe Me (Original Mix)

he also dropped a new one with fellow Trouble and Bass founder Drop The Lime and Bart B More. Hooked on this one as well…

I’m stoked that AC is releasing tracks that I’m feeling again. All seems to be restored. Anyway, I’ll leave you with some of my favorite AC tunes in honor of my dude. A nice mix of AC’s finest dubstep, fidget, electro and even a hip-hop track thrown in.

enjoy and wobble…
