know yer music history, lesson #3:

yo la tengo has been making some sweet music since the mid 1980′s. they have never had great commercial success, but more profoundly, they have been a band of consistency, churning out original tunes and amazing cover songs for more than 25 years and were/are a staple of the indie/college/alternative music scene before they even called it “indie” or “alternative.”

while i can never remember a time in my music geek history that i was freaking out about yo la tengo’s newest release or chomping at the bit to see them live i, now, have the biggest appreciation for them. they have maintained their low key vibe, stayed true to themselves, and best of all, they have the kind of longevity that any musician similar could ever dream of. much bloody respect to this band. so get yer tix!

oh, and a note about this tour. this trio has quite a dry sense of humor. read more here to learn what you can expect from the show. and yes, a few weeks ago they actually read an entire episode of Seinfeld before playing music.

here is a sampling of my most fav songs by them:

yo la tengo~you can have it all
yo la tengo~moby octopad
yo la tengo~take care

and what a great performance of “you can have it all.” srsly. just awesome:
